The toilet rough in is the distance from the wall behind the toilet to the center of the outlet pipe where the waste leaves the toilet. The most common distance is 12 inches, so most toilets have a “12-inch rough.” In some cases, the outlet is closer to or further away from the wall, especially in older homes. That is where you need a conversion unit. To measure accurately, measure from the finished wall, not the molding or a beam. Before replacing a toilet, measure the rough in or make sure your plumber measures before buying10.5" rough-in (also known as Trap or Snorkel) is a conversion part for York toilet. In USA, the toilets normally shipped with 12" rough-in. This trap attached to the bottom exit of toilet internal plumbing with a rubber ring, and can be easily removed. If toilet is not yet installed, you would not need any tools to remove 12" rough-in and replace it with 10.5" rough-in.
